ALL STAR REALIZES RECORD DIRECT SALES AT SAN DIEGO COMIC CON! |

· Frank Frazetta’s Escape from Venus realizes $251,000 – a world record price for the artist. A second Frazetta oil, King Kong realized over $200,000. · George Herriman’s rare hand-colored 1922 Krazy Kat realizes $75,000 – a world record price for the artist · Neil Adams’/Bernie Wrightson’s collaboration on Green Lantern 84 realizes a price exceeding $115,000 – a world record price for the artist · Winsor McCay In The Land Of Wonderful Dreams April 13, 1913 partially hand colored Sunday $70,000 – a world record price for the artist · Joe Kubert’s Star Spangled War Stories #38 undersized cover realizes $38,000 – a world record price for the artist San Diego – All Star Auctions concluded the San Diego Comic Con having realized over $1.2 million in direct sales. Joseph Mannarino, President and CEO of All Star Auctions said: “This unprecedented series of direct sales by All Star illustrates a continued confidence at every level of the global art market, and highlights San Diego’s prominence as a leading international sale site. For the last two weeks, international collectors from all over the world have turned their attention to San Diego Comic Con in San Diego, California and competed for exceptional works which were fresh to the market and offered with impressive provenances and appealing estimates. Comic Con 2008 follows recent successful sales by All Star which have demonstrated the continued strength, depth and breadth of the global art market, and which have seen a consistency in the number and commitment of international buyers at every level.” All Star’s sales took place over 4 days in July and realized over $1.2 million in sales, over 200 individual items changed hands. The top lot of the sale was Escape from Venus, an original oil painting by renowned artist Frank Frazetta which realized $251,000, a world record price for the artist. Further highlights include a Krazy Kat Saturday from 1922, an extremely rare early hand-colored example by George Herriman, which realized $75,000, far exceeding the previous record of $50,000; the art to the complete issue of Green Lantern #84, a legendary 1971 Neal Adams and Bernie Wrightson collaboration which realized over $115,000; the art to DC Comic’s 1968 Star Spangled War Stories #38 cover realized $38,000, a record price for undersized Joe Kubert art; Winsor McCay In The Land Of Wonderful Dreams April 13, 1913 partially hand colored Sunday $70,000 – a world record price for the artist. A seminal feature in the history of illustrative narrative. a Dave Gibbons original from Watchmen (soon to be a major motion picture) was purchased for over $6,000, preparatory art from Will Eisner's ground breaking A Contract With God was also sold along with numerous originals from major artists including; Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Curt Swan, Charles Schulz, Milton Caniff, Chester Gould, John Buscema, Carmine Infantino, Frank Miller (Sin City and the upcoming Spirit), Alex Toth, Bob Oksner, Jim Lee to name but a few.
